Are you an analytical, proactive, and customer-obsessed supply chain professional? Do you excel at bridging the gap between global strategic account goals and operational execution? Join Expeditors as an Ocean Import Agent and take ownership of retaining, developing, and optimizing key corporate accounts within our global network, with a primary focus on our growing portfolio of Chinese clients.

The Role

As an Ocean Import Agent (Chinese Accounts) at our Barendrecht branch, you are the operational engine and primary coordinator for incoming sea freight shipments into Europe, with a dedicated focus on managing and servicing our growing portfolio of Chinese clients and accounts. You manage your assigned customer accounts end-to-end: from the moment a container leaves the origin port in Asia/China until final delivery to the end customer.

In this role, your language skills and cultural understanding are key assets. You will bridge the gap between our Chinese accounts, overseas origin teams, and European operational networks in a fast-paced environment where speed, accuracy, proactive customer communication, and sharp problem-solving skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks:

  • End-to-End Import Operations: Coordinate and track incoming Ocean Freight shipments (FCL/LCL) from origin ports to final destinations across Europe.

  • Dedicated Account Communication: Serve as the primary operational point of contact for our Chinese key accounts. Proactively communicate shipment statuses, arrival notices, delays, and solutions via phone, email, and messaging platforms.

  • Carrier & Vendor Management: Daily interaction with ocean carriers, shipping lines, terminal operators, and inland transport partners (barge, rail, and trucking) to arrange smooth onward delivery.

  • System Accuracy & Documentation: Review and process import documentation (Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Customs clearances) and enter shipment data into Expeditors' systems with zero-defect accuracy.

  • Milestone Tracking & Escalation Handling: Actively monitor shipment milestones and email traffic, resolving operational exceptions, delivery delays, or out-of-scope issues proactively.

  • Financial Dossier Control (Job Costing): Issue customer invoices, verify supplier billing, manage shipment margins, and ensure accurate financial closing of files.

This is what you will bring to the role

  • Language Requirements (Mandatory): Fluent or native proficiency in Mandarin (Chinese) and fluent in written and spoken English to communicate seamlessly with our Chinese clients, suppliers, and internal operational teams (Dutch is considered a strong asset).

  • Affinity with Logistics: Relevant experience or background in ocean freight, freight forwarding, customer service, account support, or logistics administration.

  • Attention to Detail: Excellent accuracy when handling shipping documentation, customs details, and operational system entries.

  • Proactive Mindset: High energy, resilient under pressure, and a team player who actively communicates across a global network to solve operational challenges.

  • IT Competency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and quick to adapt to internal logistics management systems.

As a Ocean Import Agent (Chinese Accounts) you can count on

  • Attractive Salary: A competitive base salary up to approximately €3,500 gross per month, depending on your background, language skills, and relevant experience.

  • Performance Incentive: An annual performance bonus.

  • Strong Career Growth: Clear internal progression pathways and ongoing training/development programs.

  • Work-Life Balance: Standard 38.75 hours work week.Secondary Benefits:

  • 25 vacation days per year.

  • Opportunity to participate in the global Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
