You do not need to be an experienced customs specialist yet. We are looking for someone who already has a basic understanding of logistics, works accurately and is eager to learn more about import, air freight and customs. We will teach you the rest.
The RoleAs an Import & Customs Agent, you will ensure that international air freight shipments are handled correctly and efficiently after arriving at Schiphol. You will oversee the import process, check documentation and make sure shipments comply with applicable customs regulations.One moment you might be checking the documents for an incoming air freight shipment, the next you are contacting a customer about missing information, and later you may be making sure a customs declaration can be processed correctly. You will be in daily contact with customers, colleagues and other parties across the international logistics chain.It is exactly this combination of import, customs, customer service and logistics that makes the role so varied.As an Import & Customs Agent, your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating international import shipments from arrival through to final processing;
- Preparing, checking and processing customs declarations and related documentation;
- Ensuring import shipments comply with national and international customs regulations;
- Checking transport, import and customs documentation for accuracy and completeness;
- Maintaining contact with customers, internal departments and customs authorities;
- Proactively keeping customers informed about the progress and status of their shipments;
- Identifying missing or incorrect information and making sure issues are resolved quickly;
- Supporting colleagues with questions related to import and customs processes;
- Contributing ideas to make processes smarter and more efficient.
This is not a role where you will spend your entire day doing administration. As an Import & Customs Agent, you combine attention to detail with customer contact, international logistics and solving day-to-day logistical challenges.
This is what you will bring to the roleYou do not need to be a customs expert to succeed in this position. We are primarily looking for someone who already has some experience or affinity with logistics and is ready to take the next step.Perhaps you currently work as a logistics employee, a customer service representative within transport, a junior freight forwarder, or you gained experience in international logistics during your studies or an internship. Most importantly, you are curious about import and customs and motivated to develop your knowledge in this field.You work accurately, maintain a good overview and enjoy getting to the bottom of things. You are also comfortable communicating with customers and colleagues and remain calm when several things require your attention at the same time.In addition, you:
- Are available full-time;
- Are fluent in both written and spoken Dutch and English;
- Have a higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking;
- Have some experience or affinity with logistics, transport, freight forwarding, supply chain or customs.
Previous experience with customs declarations is an advantage, but not a requirement. Your foundation in logistics and motivation to learn the profession are just as important to us.
