The Role
An important step for the physical distribution of goods is their formal handling. For one of our key accounts we have a Compliance team onsite at its European Headquarters in Amsterdam. This Compliance team ensures that international laws and regulations are complied with at all times in the field of import and export activities. The EMEA Compliance Supervisor will be part of a Global Onsite Team supporting one of Expeditors High Tech customers within an import/export operation. The EMEA Compliance Supervisor will be accountable for meeting all major duties and responsibilities outlined below in a timely and responsive manner, as directed by the Local Onsite Customs Manager.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains relationships with Expeditors High Tech customers to support activities and maintain positive relations on behalf of the company
  • Supervises and coordinates the EMEA Onsite Customs Compliance Team members
  • Manages customs compliance requests via customer's proprietary ticketing system and ensure smooth and timely export/import process flow
  • Review, approve Commercial Invoice, shipping documents and analyze complex compliance queries
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for customer queries/problems that Customs Compliance Coordinators in the team are unable to close or resolve.
  • Train new staff in assigned duties, assess progress of trainees and assign additional duties as appropriate.
  • Ensure the team is in full compliance with all applicable trade regulations. This includes internal policies and procedures such as Standard Work Instructions (SWI), external government regulations and customer policies / requirements.
  • Oversee and monitor team performance and conduct periodic operational reviews to identify areas of concern in the processes. Communicate and escalate transaction problems or irregularities to the Local Onsite Customs Manager and assist in identifying solutions.
  • Assist with the Annual Performance reviews, address employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies.
  • Targeting and implementing process improvements including SWIs, SOPs.

What you bring as an EMEA Compliance Supervisor:
  • Bachelor degree;
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in import or export compliance;
  • 5 years of experience in logistics;
  • Good knowledge of incoterms;
  • You are proactive and have strong organizational skills;
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, email and various PC-based software;
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.
